Instructor from Hell?

I already regret writing about this. I feel bad.  But it must be shared that I absolutely hated my core/spin class today because I think my instructor was a little bit wackadoodle.

First of all, you need to imagine Susan Sylvester as a fitness instructor.  Blonde hair sticking out in all directions. A sweat band.  Then imagine the enthusiasm of a kindergarten teacher trying to lead 5-year-olds in an exercise.

At first, she started class 5 minutes late because she was in the bathroom. Okay, fine. I'm not asking questions.

Then, she can't get the music started. She was very cheery and peppy and kept making apologies. Okay, fine. But then she started to sing.  She asked me for a song for her to sing.  REALLY!?  I suggested "The Wheels on the Bus" as a total joke.  She sang it.  Um, okay.  I just want to work out.  The teacher in me understands that there will be technical difficulties.  However, that doesn't mean that you waste 10 minutes of class time discussing the technology.  In this case, it took a lot of effort on my part not to instruct the class on doing some ab work while we waited.  Instead, we awkwardly smiled and waited for her instructions.

Once we were doing abs, she was shouting "WOO!" and "WHEE!" a lot.  Also, she would get us doing something and then not count.  We just started with no directions.  Then, after a while, she would start shouting random numbers.  She thought she was funny.

I could not look at Colby. I knew if I did I would communicate my disdain with a visible eye roll that would not be polite if seen by others.  So, I smiled and I participated.

Then, we set up for spin class.  This was a whole new bag of fun.  She would shout, she would squeal. It was almost like an "I'll have what she's having kind of moment."  Awkward.  I really do appreciate her enthusiasm.  I'm not trying to be hateful.  But if you know me, you know I'm pretty straight-faced and I just want to get a good workout in.  So this was not my style.  At all.

Fun Fact: Sue's favorite song during spin class is "The Joker" by Steve Miller Band.  Especially the part about Maurice.  She liked to squeal the guitar parts as well.  Good times.

Fun Fact #2: Do you remember that song from pre-school where you are going on a bear hunt?  She chanted something similar during our bike ride.  She would say things like, "Uh oh! There is a puddle! We've got to go over it!"  and "Hey, look! There's a beach! Let's ride on it!"

I'm not kidding.

I will be avoiding Tuesday night core/spin classes at the YMCA like the plague.
